Page 1 of 2 On the Pyramid of the Moon, new developments were made after several sites on the Pyramid of the Sun were put on hiatus yesterday. In exploratory section B4, 3 cm of sandstone and 10 cm of shale were removed, revealing remains of carbonated wood. The organic matter was found scattered on the sandstone plates around the excavated area. Samples were taken and sent to Visoko Museum for analysis. A new exploratory site is planned for south-west edge of the Pyramid of the Moon, and ground-breaking started today, 200 meters from excavation site no. 8. The site will be 5 sq. meters after the preparatory work is finished. This site will be a focal point for the project, receiving part of the influx of workers from sites on the Pyramid of the Sun. The area around the site is remarkable for the presence of several large free-standing sandstone blocks of roughly even dimensions. Week Report: This weekend brought many people and developments to the Bosnian Valley of Pyramids before the torrential rains of Sunday. With excavations on the Pyramid of the Sun temporarily on hold, the focus on the Moon Pyramid's excavations has been intense, with discoveries, expansions and the creation of one new site. The trial sites B2 and B4 have been yielding significant results. In B2, more polished sandstone plates have been found as the expansion of the square on the south side continues. B4 provided what may have been the most interesting result of the week, with traces of burned wood remains found at a depth of 13 cm beneath the layer of previously revealed sandstone plates. Samples were taken and will soon be evaluated. In site 4, expansion of the east side was finished, and the sandstone tiles within were brushed clean. The north-west area of site 8, section D, was expanded to 4.1 meters. In this section, at a depth of 110 cm, specimens of organic matter were found and sampled. Section A of this square was expanded to 5.7 meters. The excavations took this section to a depth of 53 cm, where a layer of small sandstone blocks 5 cm thick was unearthed. Further up on the Moon, preparatory work was started on the new site 7/1. The clearing of brush and surface layer is underway, and is expected to be finished by next week. The planned area of this site is 5 sq. meters. Of the thousands of visitors this weekend, a few deserve special mention. On Friday, August 12, Reisa-I-Ulema, the head of the Bosnian Muslim community, came to see the progress of the project. He met with head supervisor Goran ?aki?, who guided him through the excavations and explained the techniques practiced here, even letting the religious leader dig a few centimeters into a site. He had this to say about the project: “These big and small stone blocks, as I can see, are artifacts of human hands. I’m especially impressed by the walls [on site 12 of the Pyramid of the Moon]. I’m really glad that my city, Visoko, is the center of the world’s attention. I hope that the enthusiasts who started the project, like Semir [Osmanagic, foundation president], will have a strong will to the end of the excavation.” On Saturday, August 13, eighty attendees of the international Esperanto congress in Sarajevo this week visited the Visoko Museum and the pyramids… A group of twenty-five doctors organized by the Zambak Tour group of Turkey came from Istanbul… Marcin Kuzniak, a polish physicist studying for his Ph.D in Switzerland arrived and will contribute his talents to the excavations in the coming days. Today, August 14, unrelenting rain kept everyone away except archaeologist Aleksandra Andelkovi?, who started work early this morning on site no. 8, regardless of the threat of the impending storm.
