Regular academic visits to the Valley of Bosnian Pyramids continue today with the arrival of Italian Professors and members of an Italian research team, Drs. Dario Andretti and Luciano Leoni. They have brought back results of an analysis of stalactite samples taken several months ago from entry tunnel Ravne. Laboratory analysis shows the age of the tunnels to be between 2600 and 2900 years, which means that construction of the tunnel complex far predates the officially recognized arrival of Illyrians and Romans in the area. This of course shows that the public’s negative speculation and dismissal of said tunnels as “medieval mining constructs” is now proven false and unfounded. In addition, other samples from lateral, or side tunnels were also taken in for analysis and they are believed to be even older.
Italian researchers performed radio-nuclear and geo-chemical analysis and applied the uranium-torium method. A full report of these research findings will soon be posted on the website.
During the evening hours, a formal reception for friends and sponsors of the project was held in hotel “Piramida Sunca” in Visoko. The event was attended by 350 guests, among them Visoko Municipality Chief Mr. Munib Alibegovic, Stari Grad Municipality Chief Mr. Mustafa Resic, Director of “Visoko Homeland Museum” Mr. Senad Hodovic, and Foundation President Mr. Semir Osmanagic. The reception has now become tradition, and marks the commencement of the Visoko archeological season.
High spirits and a positive outlook were further evident at a televised event in Visoko. Federal and regional government officials, as well as a large number of guests from Sarajevo, Zenica, and Visoko gathered to wish research team members a prosperous and successful upcoming season.
Miners and Foundation personnel continue to tirelessly work on clearing the underground tunnel labyrinth Ravne of debris and accumulated earthen material that blocks side passageways and galleries. It remains a mystery why such large-scale filling of these side-passageways was undertaken (the side tunnels run at 45 and 90 degree angles from the main tunnel). Tourists from all over the world can now access Ravne and KTK tunnels – visits are of course conducted under the highest safety and security standards.
